Corpus Christi Choir
We have a Parish choir of mixed voices who meet, each Sunday for
the 9.00am Mass,to lead the singing with reverent, ritual music,
hymns and motets appropriate for the liturgy of the day.
Our foremost purpose is to encourage the worshiping congregation
to sing in praise and thanksgiving in the enrichment of the Mass
for the glory of God. Hymns are usually selected from the parish
Hymnal "LAUDATE" and psalm settings from our "RESPONSORIAL
PSALTER". Gospel acclamations are selected from various
sources by one of our Organists and we also a have a selection of
music books from which Motets Anthems etc. are chosen.
Most of our music is of a traditional nature but there are
occasions when we may use more contemporary music. At certain
periods and celebrations in the Church year we may sing Latin
plainsong.
New members are always welcome to join us. We meet, for
rehearsals, on Wednesday evenings from 8.00pm to approximately
9.15pm. We are currently fortunate to have the services
of 2 organists without whom our musical worship would be
considerably more difficult.
All of our choristers and musicians are entitled to sing and
play with the Portsmouth Diocesan Choir.
Music Group
The Music Group is an instrumental group with singers, providing
mainly contemporary music to support the First Communion programme
on a once a month basis and the First Communion Masses in
June. The music itself is chosen to reflect the liturgy and
appeal to adults and children alike. Over the years, many
talented youngsters have played in the group and children
from St. Teresa's often join us to sing. New musicians are
always welcome, provided they are at least Grade 4
level. On the Sundays we are due to play at the 11 a.m.
mass, we meet one hour before to rehearse.
Music for other worship courses and
events
Music for other worship courses and events is generally prepared
especially for the occasion and one good example of this is the
series of Life In Spirit seminars held at Corpus Christi during May
and June 2010. Seven sessions in total, each with carefully
chosen hymns, both contemporary and traditional, performed in a
modern style.
Music has also been provided for Youth masses and 11:00 am
masses in the past, in the same style. Some of the hymns played and
sung provided on these occasions have been recorded by
the musicians and singers involved and these can be heard
by following the links on the left hand side of home page.
Our music groups are always seeking new opportunities to support
the parish in praise and prayer through music.
