CAFOD is the official Catholic aid agency for
England and Wales. Inspired by Scripture, Catholic Social Teaching
and the experiences and hopes of people living in poverty, CAFOD
works for a safe, sustainable and peaceful world.
CAFOD works with 500 partners in more than 40
countries across the world to bring hope, compassion and solidarity
to poor communities, standing side by side with them to end poverty
and injustice. It works with people of all faiths and none.
CAFOD helps us to put our faith into action -
in giving, doing and praying.
CAFOD raises funds within parishes with the two
annual Fast Days in Lent and at Harvest to maintain long term
projects and when necessary makes Emergeny Appeals following
specific disasters (sometimes as part of the national Disasters
Emergency Committee). Corpus Christi also supports projects in
Rwanda as part of the Connect2 scheme using donations made via cash
boxes, sponsored events, and marriage preparation courses.
CAFOD campaigns on issues that affect the
poorest - such as calling for the ban on use of landmines, the
improvement of working conditions especially in the global mining
industries, fair trade and an end to trade injustice, dropping the
unpayable debt and highlighting the effects of climate change.
CAFOD encourages us to reflect on social
justice and poverty in our worship by providing useful
resources.
